Announcements
1. PASTOR APPRECIATION-While pastors deserve our gratitude and support all year long, October is set aside as a special opportunity for congregations and individuals to intentionally recognize and appreciate their ministry. Pastors give generously of themselves throughout the year, serving their congregations, communities and the wider church in countless ways. Their ministry often includes long hours, difficult conversations, joyful celebrations and quiet moments of care that may never be seen by the wider congregation. Throughout October, consider finding meaningful ways to say thank you. Visit the UMC NIC website for more ideas.
2. CHILDREN’S MESSAGE AND CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL
are taking a break this week-both will return next Sunday.
3. BIBLE STUDY- Starting this Thursday, October 15th at 10am, Pastor Sang will be holding a six-week bible study for the new book Reading the Bible with Bonhoeffer, by James C. Howell. This book explores and highlights how Dietrich Bonhoeffer's close reading of Scripture became God's call during turbulent times. For those that signed up previously, books are now available in the office. All are still welcome to join the class. Books are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Cokesbury, and many other online retailers. E-book versions are also available.
4. LAITY SUNDAY- Laity Sunday celebrates the people of God and the Spirit working through them. As God’s people grow in grace, they gather with others and connect with the saving love of Jesus Christ. So, on Laity Sunday, October 18th, we continue to lift up God’s call to follow the way of Jesus and lead others to him. Jacquee Lawrence will be the lay speaker.
5. DORCAS CIRCLE- Our next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 21st at 1pm in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for some light refreshments, grace, and fellowship!
6. JOASH SUNDAY- Each year we take a collection known as the Joash Offering to help with church and parsonage repairs. This year's collection will go towards repairing the stained-glass storm windows, fire protection air compressor/dryer, and soffits on the first floor of the parsonage.
