Announcements


1. SCOUT SUNDAY- The second Sunday of February is Scout Sunday, when past and present Scouts, leaders, young people, and adults in Scouting are recognized. We invite anyone who was or is involved in the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts/Guides to stand in acknowledgement of your contributions to community service, leadership, and global citizenship.

2. GREAT AGERS - Roses are red, Violets are blue, Great Agers is back and we want to see you. Great Agers will meet again on February 13th  to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a sensible lunch followed by make-your-own sundaes. Bring your favorite salad, appetizer or other sensible dish to share. We will supply the ice cream, toppings, and all the extras. Following lunch, we will have some fun and games as well as a few rounds of Heart Bingo. Bring a small gift hidden in a bag to use for the auction at the end of bingo. Plan to arrive between 11:30 and noon. We will eat at noon. Feel free to bring a friend or two. Please sign up in the narthex if you plan to attend. Hope to see everyone!

3. DOLLAR DINNERS -The season of Lent is around the corner, and we will once again host weekly Lenten potluck dollar dinners for five Wednesdays at 6 pm, starting February 25th. Join us for a time of fellowship as we journey towards Easter. Each week, a main dish and beverages will be provided. We ask everyone to bring a side dish or a dessert to share, an offering of one dollar per person, and your own table service. All are welcome- the more the merrier!!! The sign-up sheet on the bulletin board lists the theme for each week. Please RSVP so we know how much food to prepare.

4. LENTEN BOOK STUDY- Join us as we read about Adam Hamilton’s travels to England, where he explores the defining characteristics of a Wesleyan Christian in his book Revival. We will meet on Wednesday evenings starting February 25th, right after Dollar Dinners. Books are available online and in digital format. If you previously signed up and requested a book, they are now available in the office.

5. ASH WEDNESDAY- On Wednesday, February 18th, we will have two opportunities to mark the beginning of lent. There will be a silent prayer service at noon for those who wish to sit in the sanctuary for a time of prayer and reflection and to receive ashes. At 7:00 pm, we will have our traditional Ash Wednesday service, with scripture reading, prayer, the imposition of ashes, and a blessing. All are welcome.

6. SHROVE PANCAKE DINNER- Hope UCC will be hosting their annual Shrove pancake dinner and Ash Wednesday Service on Tuesday, February 17th starting at 6 pm. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.

7. DORCAS CIRCLE- The next Dorcas Circle meeting will be on February 18th at 1pm in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for light refreshments, grace, and fellowship!

8. GEORGETOWN ELEMENTARY- The Missions Team is currently collecting hats, mittens, and gloves for the children at Georgetown Elementary. Please help support this drive by placing your donations in the collection bin in the breezeway by Sunday, February 22nd.

9. BLACK HISTORY MONTH- Last week, we started our celebration of Black History Month with a look at the life of Marie Wilkinson, who spent her life as a social and civil rights activist and fought against poverty, hunger, homelessness, joblessness, and injustice. This week, we are highlighting the life of musician and composer Thomas A. Dorsey, the acknowledged father of Black Gospel music and perhaps the most influential figure ever to impact the genre.
